The electrical bill is high, and the windows are about to shatter, but
this thing sounds awesome! I have been fascinated with audio reproduction since I was just a little kid.
I started building this system when I was 13 years old. Now, 11 years later, it is a real monster! The
heart of this system is an Onkyo TX-DS939 THX receiver. It has enough power to run 4 pairs of Optimus Mach Three
speakers. I have modified all of the Mach Three speakers by bracing and sealing the cabinets to
eliminate wind turbulence and mechanical distortion. Each Mach Three has a 15-inch woofer, FF cooled
horn midrange, and a FF cooled horn tweeter. I am proud of the monster that I have created. This system
has lots of power, but I designed it to give you a realistic audio image. When a violin is playing, you
feel like you can just point directly at it instead of a single speaker.
The latest addition to the system are
2 15-inch Rockford Fosgate DVC sub woofers. I spent a lot of time designing and building the cabinets. The cabinets
are made of 1-inch high-density particleboard. The ports are tuned to resonate at 20Hz. I call these Sub-Sub woofers.
I use an Optimus STAV-3250 reciever for an amp to run these. That amp was rated to be 100W at 8 ohms x2. I have been running
it at less than 2 ohms X2 for years. It also has a very low THD. I plan to use this amp until it fries! These subs are way too much!
I guess I built these monsters for showing off to friends. It's fun to raddle pop cans off the table upstairs.
